Disposable Undergarments for Spa Clients: What to Stock and Why
Disposable undergarments are the item spas most often buy badly, because the purchase decision is usually made on price alone and the consequences show up in client experience rather than in the accounts.
A client who is handed a brief that is see-through, or too small, or feels like paper, has been given a reason to feel uncomfortable at exactly the moment you need them to relax. That is an expensive saving.
Here is what to stock and what actually differentiates the options.
Why offer them at all
Hygiene. The client’s own underwear is not clean in a clinical sense, and treatments involving oil, wax, scrubs or wraps will ruin it. A disposable removes both problems.
Protecting the client’s own clothing. Massage oil does not wash out of underwear. Clients who have had a favourite garment ruined do not come back happily.
Modesty and dignity. Many clients are uncomfortable being undressed for a treatment. A properly fitting, genuinely opaque garment resolves that, and the difference in how relaxed a client is over an hour is significant.
Practicality for the therapist. Certain treatments need particular areas accessible. A disposable brief is designed for that in a way ordinary underwear is not.
Presentation. Handing over a sealed, fresh garment signals hygiene more effectively than almost anything else you can do. See how to maintain hygiene standards at your spa for the other client-visible signals that matter.

The three things that actually matter
Price is the fourth consideration, not the first.
1. Opacity. The single most important property, and the one cheapest products fail. A see-through garment defeats the entire purpose. Opacity comes from GSM and from fabric type, so this is where the specification matters rather than the marketing.
2. Fit. Too small is uncomfortable and can tear while being put on, which is a genuinely awkward moment for a client alone in a room. Too large will not stay in place during treatment.
3. Feel against skin. The client is lying still for 60 to 90 minutes. Fabric that felt acceptable in your hand can feel scratchy after an hour, especially on freshly waxed or scrubbed skin.
Spunbond or spunlace
This is the real quality divide, and it is worth understanding before comparing prices.
Spunbond is heat-bonded non woven. Strong, water-repellent, slightly crisp to the touch, and cheaper. Fine for shorter treatments.
Spunlace, which Indian pricelists usually label “spunless”, is entangled using high-pressure water jets rather than heat. It is noticeably softer, more cloth-like and drapes better. It costs more.
For a 90-minute massage where the client is undressed and still, spunlace is worth the difference. For a 20-minute treatment, spunbond is fine. Our explainer on non woven fabric, GSM, spunbond and spunlace covers the technical detail.
What we stock, and what each is for
Male briefs, four options.
25 GSM single pack at ₹7.50, in white or black, 10 per pack. The entry option, individually packed which is useful when you want to hand over a sealed item.
25 GSM in a 50-piece pack at ₹6. Same specification, better price per piece for volume.
40 GSM at ₹8.50. The step most spas should take. Substantially more opaque and more substantial in the hand for ₹1 more than the 25 GSM. This is the best value decision in the whole category.
Spunlace, size L at ₹14. The premium option, noticeably softer. For longer treatments and higher-end positioning.
Female brief, spunlace, size M at ₹14. Spunlace as standard, which is the right call for a garment worn during massage, body wraps and intimate waxing.
Bra wrap, spunlace, size L at ₹14, 20 per pack. A wrap rather than a fitted bra, which is why one size covers a wide range of clients. For back treatments, body massage and body wraps where the client wants coverage without a fastening in the way.
Bermuda shorts, white or black at ₹15, 5 per pack. More coverage than a brief, for clients who want it and for treatments where the client sits up, moves between rooms, or has a longer session. Often the item that makes a nervous first-time client comfortable, and worth stocking purely for that.

Sizing honestly
Our range is limited to specific sizes: male briefs in a general fit and size L in spunlace, female brief in M, bra wrap in L. That is what the supplier range offers, and it works for the majority of clients but not all.
Practical handling: stock bermuda shorts alongside briefs. They are more forgiving on fit and give you something to offer any client the briefs do not suit. It is a better answer than a client struggling with a garment that does not fit.
If sizing is a recurring issue for your clientele, tell us. Send us a message with what you need, because supplier ranges do change and we would rather know.
Working out quantities
One garment per client per treatment, and often two, since a massage client may need both a brief and a bra wrap.
| Treatments per day | Days per month | Briefs per month | Plus bra wraps |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | 26 | 130 | 65 |
| 10 | 26 | 260 | 130 |
| 15 | 26 | 390 | 195 |
Note bra wraps come 20 per pack while most briefs come 10, so the pack maths differs. At these volumes the 50-piece male brief pack becomes the sensible format. Our bulk buying guide covers sizing orders and storage.

Presenting them well
Hand them over sealed, or open the pack in front of the client. The visible freshness is worth as much as the garment.
Give clear, brief instructions. Tell the client what to wear, what to remove, and where to leave their clothes. Uncertainty is what makes people uncomfortable, not the garment.
Offer a choice where you can. Brief or bermuda. A client who chooses feels in control.
Have a hook and a covered basket for their own clothes. Nothing on the floor.
Leave the room while they change, and knock before returning.
What goes with them
A complete client kit for a body treatment: the undergarment, a fresh bed sheet, a large towel, disposable slippers at ₹22, and a spa kimono for before and after. See our guide to disposable bed sheets for table sizing, and the complete salon hygiene checklist for the full per-service list.

Frequently asked questions
Why do spas provide disposable undergarments?
Four reasons: hygiene, since a client’s own underwear is not clean in a clinical sense; protecting the client’s clothing, because massage oil does not wash out; modesty and comfort, which directly affects how relaxed a client is over an hour; and practicality, since disposables are designed to leave treatment areas accessible.
What should you look for in disposable spa undergarments?
Opacity first, then fit, then feel against skin. Price is the fourth consideration. Opacity is where cheap products fail, and a see-through garment defeats the entire purpose. Opacity comes from GSM and fabric type, so check the specification rather than the description.
What is the difference between spunbond and spunlace undergarments?
Spunbond is heat-bonded, crisp, water-repellent and cheaper, and is fine for shorter treatments. Spunlace, labelled “spunless” on Indian pricelists, is water-jet entangled, noticeably softer and more cloth-like, and costs more. For a 90-minute treatment where the client is undressed and still, spunlace is worth the difference.
Is a 40 GSM brief worth more than a 25 GSM one?
Usually yes, and it is the best value decision in the category. Our 40 GSM male brief is ₹8.50 against ₹7.50 for the 25 GSM, and for that ₹1 you get substantially better opacity and a more substantial feel, which avoids the see-through problem entirely.
How many disposable undergarments does a spa need per month?
One per client per treatment, often two since a massage client may need both a brief and a bra wrap. A spa doing 10 treatments daily over 26 days needs around 260 briefs and 130 bra wraps. Note bra wraps come 20 per pack while most briefs come 10, so pack quantities differ.
